Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a painful musculoskeletal disorder mainly caused by stress; this medical condition targets the muscles and soft tissue in the body. This is most common in women above the age of 20.  Fibromyalgia causes its victims to feel pain throughout their entire body. There is a long list of possible symptoms from anxiety to muscle spasms. Stress is greatly related to fibromyalgia and its symptoms as it also contributes to many other conditions. Relaxation can very often stop the start of a series of medical issues, especially the ones involving headaches, fatigue (felling tired), anxiety, and a lack of concentration; all of which are symptoms of fibromyalgia.

The causes of fibromyalgia are currently unknown, but it has been found that fibromyalgia is commonly linked to the following: stress, traumatic events, illness, repetitive injuries, and certain diseases. Fibromyalgia is incurable, but can be treated; treatments are shown below. If you believe you have fibromyalgia and seek treatment, contact Pegasus Pain Management.

Best Treatments for Fibromyalgia

-Treating Fibromyalgia at Home:

Just relax; sometimes it can be very difficult to relax or you just don’t know how to, but the key to relieving fibromyalgia pain is to free yourself from stress. To do this you can take some time to do an activity that you enjoy, you also should never bottle in anger or emotions because that causes stress, so verbalize what you feel and think.

You don’t necessarily need to confront those troubling you, but it is recommended to speak with a counselor or therapist just so you can get it all out; you could also speak with a close friend that is outside of the situation if you prefer. It is also recommended to just simply go out (or stay in) and block out distractions, such as turning off your phone.

-Therapy for Fibromyalgia:

One of the best ways to relax is therapy, which is meant to soothe you. There is a verbal therapy option as mentioned before, you may speak to a therapist, there are other verbal options as well such as a support group (a group of people discussing their current difficulties so they can relate and find support), or cognitive behavioral therapy (helps to changes your thoughts to change your behavior).

There are also types of physical therapy to help keep you relax, these include massages (helps to relax muscles), hydro therapy (use of water to relieve pain), acupuncture (insertion of needles in specific locations to relieve pain), etc.

Medications to Treat Fibromyalgia:

If relaxing fails to relieve your stress and pain, you may want to try taking medication. There are several medications that can be used for fibromyalgia pain such as muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), nerve pain medication, or analgesic.

If pain persists or for more information, contact Pegasus Pain Management to find the treatment that is right for you.
